If you’ve missed this week’s news, you would have missed us on Nine News with a story about a family with five generations of history connected to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Following her mum’s footsteps, Joan Gorman completed her nursing training at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne. She then went on to have 12 children here at St Vincent’s Private. One of those children was Mary.

Many of our staff will remember Mary Balmer, who worked with us for 30 years before retiring. Mary had four girls of her own, Sarah, Anna, Jane & Georgina; all born here at St Vincent’s Private too.

Last week, three of Mary’s daughters had their sons within the same week at SVPHM.

  • Anna’s baby boy, Charlie, was born on 7 September
  • Sarah’s son, Harry, was born on 11 September
  • Jane’s baby boy, Max, was born on 14 September

Dr Guy Skinner delivered both Harry and Charlie, while baby Max was delivered by Dr Jillian Woinarski.
